A lot of people don’t know that you can actually file your taxes now directly with the IRS online. Along with filing your taxes, you can look up your refund as well as any other documents or questions you may have. The IRS asks that you make under $73,000 to fill out a guided tax preparation form, but you can make any amount of income to file with them directly using other forms accessible on their website.

What Is It? An easy plug and chug platform where you can drop all of your tax information from the years prior, this do-it-yourself platform is completely free and convenient to use. The platform allows you to enter your employer information along with financial records to help find the best deductions for you, all at the drop of a button. They also have customer service in case you have questions or can’t remember what stimulus credit you received.
Best For? If you’ve been working at home since the pandemic, this one is for you.

But did you know that you can now do your taxes online through their software, and it’s free? Their online filing option is user-friendly and offers on-demand tax support when needed. They also now have their mobile banking platform called Spruce. By allowing you to link your refund to Spruce, H&R Block says you can get your tax return up to five days sooner than if you used another preparer.
Best for? Someone who’s relatively organized and ready to go.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

What Is It? The IRS has two free in-person programs along with the filing forms I mentioned above. Their two free in-person programs are the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program. These centers are staffed with qualified volunteers who have been trained by the IRS to help those in their community prepare their taxes.
What I love about these programs is that they assist those in our community who are limited English speaking taxpayers. That means along with us, our abuelas and abuelos can get some assistance too!
